F1000 Temperature System
The F1000 provides state of the art temperature monitoring and feedback. A high resolution, ratiometric A/D converter, together with a specially designed thermistor probe, give a useable resolution of 0.002 degrees F. Absolute accuracy is +/- 0.3 degrees F.
A unique circle display allows continuous display of temperature changes without annoying interruptions due to re-centering. A pleasant bell/chord sound provides pleasant and intuitive auditory feedback.
F1000 Skin Conductance (EDR) System
The F1000 skin conductance (EDR) system uses the same high resolution A/D converter as the temperature system. In addition, the EDR system is electrically isolated from the EMG/EEG system. This feature, not provided in many instruments, eliminates interaction and artifacts between the systems.
EDR feedback is shown as a narrow bar graph type display. The scale can be shown as percent change from reference, micromho change from reference, or absolute value. A "bong drum" like sound has the feeling associated with rising and falling conductance..
Two identical channels consisting of a preamplifier, tunable analog filter, and RMS detector provide an advanced EMG system. Electrically shielded EMG cables reduce artifacts. Filters can be tuned to any EMG bandwidth from 20 Hz to 1000 Hz..A high speed A/D converter provides fast response which can detect muscle twitches and spasms. Smoothing can be applied to tailor the response to the application.
EMG is displayed on a vertical bar graph which is easily understood by the subject. Ranges are available between 5 and 500 uV full scale, and can be changed during a session without interrupting the continuity of feedback or data recording. Sound threshold can also be changed interactively.
EEG is handled by the same channels as EMG. The tunable analog filters are set to frequencies in the EEG range. Generally, one preamp channel supplies EEG signals to both filters to give dual feedback bands such as alpha/theta or theta/beta. These filters provide the very fast response times essential for effective EEG learning. In addition, the raw EEG signal is available for additional filtering using digital methods such as the FFT. While these methods generally are slower responding, they can be useful for monitoring and inhibits.
Built in Yamaha Sound Synthesizer
The F1000 raises sound to a new standard. An integrated professional sound synthesizer provides the ability to generate quality sound. For example the combination of 17 tones form the thermal feedback sound. The result is a bell-chord combination that reflects the feel of the thermal metaphor. Data Logging and Presentation
All data including raw EEG can be logged continuously for up to 60 minutes without interfering with feedback training. We do not interrupt the feedback process to store data on the hard drive as some do.
The F1000 automatically records up to 60 minutes of session data for later review. The data logging process is independent of screen display and range settings. Thermal and EDR data are recorded at 7.2 samples per second, while EMG/EEG amplitude data are recorded at 10 samples per second. EMG can be optionally sampled at 100 samples per second for observation of muscle irritability. Much higher rates are possible depending on computer speed. Keep in mind that these are logging sample rates and are kept low to save disk space.
Raw EMG/EEG data can be recorded during training for later analysis. Data can be viewed as raw waveform, filtered raw waveform, spectrum histogram, and spectral density chart. Recording time depends on the amount of computer memory available and sample rate used. 60 minutes of EEG can be easily handled at 128 samples/sec. On a fast computer, sample rates can be as high as 4096 samples/sec if required.
The F1000 Data Presentation System makes it easy to review a session with the client. For a post session quick look, the system automatically sets scaling to produce an attractive color graph of client responses. Portions of the session can be expanded to show interrelationships between modalities.
For clinical review the F1000 Data Presentation System generates professional quality graphics which can be printed to dot matrix, laser, or Jet printers in color. For the experienced researcher data can be exported in comma delimited ACSII format suitable for import into spreadsheets or statistical packages. Data can also be stored on floppy or hard disk for future analysis.
